Crown & Bridge

Missing teeth can damper your self-confidence and jeopardize your oral health. If you’re missing a tooth, you may have noticed that your face doesn’t appear as full, and you might also have difficulty speaking or chewing. Our crown & bridge options, also called fixed bridges, have been used in the dental field for years to complete smiles and re-establish optimal oral health.

What is a Bridge?

A fixed bridge consists of three or more crowns fused together. Dr. Harden prepares the teeth on either side of the gap left by a missing tooth and fits them with the crowns. The prosthetic tooth will literally bridge the gap in your smile. A fixed bridge will prevent your teeth from shifting out of place and restore a properly aligned “bite.” Non-removable, fixed bridges are cemented in place and cannot be taken out by the patient.

Crown & Bridge Restorations

Fountain View Dentistry's Crown & Bridge restorations

Your first visit will begin with an X-ray and thorough diagnosis. Next, Dr. Harden will numb your mouth and conservatively reshape the teeth on either side of the gap. He’ll take impressions to send to the dental laboratory that will handcraft your custom bridge. A temporary bridge will allow you to eat and smile confidently while waiting for the final restoration to arrive.

Fitting the Bridge

At a second appointment, Dr. Harden will remove the temporary bridge and evaluate the esthetics of the final restoration. He will discuss the color, shape, and overall appearance of the bridge to ensure you’re happy with the result. If everything looks good, and the bridge fits precisely, then he will cement the bridge and make any necessary adjustments. With careful maintenance, a fixed bridge can last 10 years or longer.
